Uncle Lou’s

Luke and I love watching cooking shows, especially ones featuring Gordon Ramsay and Guy Fieri. One day, I mentioned that I wanted to watch an episode about a restaurant in Memphis, so Luke showed me an episode he had seen before. It was from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and featured Uncle Lou’s.

After watching the episode, we decided to check it out for lunch the next day. Memphis has a reputation for being a rough city, and this part of town felt especially gritty since it was near the airport and far from where we usually spend our time. Still, we went in, ordered our food, and found a table.

The food came out quickly, and honestly, it was really good. The fried chicken was unlike any I’d had before because it had a noticeable vinegary flavor that made it stand out. The okra was pretty mid, and the roll was nothing special, but the chicken? Damn. It completely lived up to the hype. We also got the strawberry banana pudding for dessert, which was excellent.

Overall, I’d give Uncle Lou’s an 8/10. I’d definitely go back again.
